Hotpoint Range Flat Style Oven Igniter Kit

PartSelect Number PS231280
Manufacturer Part Number WB13K21
The flat style oven igniter kit comes with a mounting bracket and a wire connector with a plug. The igniter kit is used to light the oven burner. If you notice that your oven will not heat up properly, the igniter kit may need to be replaced. This flat style gas oven igniter has a body length of 3-3/4 inches. When completing this repair, the connector plug might need to be removed and spliced to the range wiring using porcelain wire nuts. Before you begin this repair, be sure to disconnect the power source from the oven, and shut off the gas supply.

The igniter glowed, but never got hot enough to ignite the propane, so I did smell propane.
First, I removed the two screws that held the heat shield in place. Second, I removed the one screw that held a small wire covering. That covering kept the wires inside the back wall of the range. Third, I removed the two screws that held the Igniter Kit, and unplugged it from the back of the range. I then carefully put the new igniter in, and reassembled everything in reverse order. It only took about 30 minutes to do the repair, and 30 minutes of cleaning and wiping of the broiler area. (It is amazing what you see when you take things apart). I should have been wiping things up over the past few months. Overall, a very easy repair. I ordered the part at 12:30 in the afternoon, and FedEx delivered it the next morning at 11:30, all for the regular shipping price of $6.95. VERY HAPPY..... Read more...

Hotpoint Range Round Style Oven Igniter
★★★★★
★★★★★
59 Reviews
PartSelect Number PS243425
Manufacturer Part Number WB2X9154
The round style oven igniter is also known as an oven bake or broil igniter and is compatible with your range appliance. The function of the round style oven igniter is to pull electrical current through the oven safety valve to open it. If your igniter is glowing for more than ninety seconds but it has not ignited the gas flame, that means that the igniter is not powerful enough to open the valve. Be very careful when handling this igniter as it is very fragile. This igniter has a range of 2.5 to 3.0 amps. Note that this round igniter will not replace flat style igniters.

Burner igniter needed to be replaced
Assumed the entire top of the range would have to be lifted off. Removed the three screws inside the top of the over door and then noticed the two screws holding the dish around the burner. They were tight and required WD-40 and then a sharp tap and came off.
Important: Notice the direction your old igniter is plugged into the wire. It is not clear and can go on either way.

On Thankgiving Day with company coming and the turkey in the oven, my kenmore stove decided to act up. The oven burner started to smell awful and start carboning up due to improper burning at the burner tube. We then abandoned our attempts to roast the turkey in the oven for that day.
After removing the bake tube and ignitor assembly the following day for a close inspection which involved removal of the bottom pan, racks etc. and disconnecting the ignitor / tube assembly by unscrewing the sheet-metal screws holding them in place, I discovered that the ignitor had burned a hole in the bake tube which could not be seen without unscrewing the ignitor from the tube first. This caused the air / propane ratio to dramaticly change causing the oven to have a strong odor, start to carbon up the bake tube and effect the temperatures and cook time and the possibility of monoxide fumes effecting the chef. The parts that partselect.com supplied, which were in stock ,worked perfectly and saved my Christmas goose. Happy Holidays! Read more...

Would not light.
I had to pull the drawer to get to the burner, then remove the heat shield to get to the connections. I took out the screw at the end of the burner tube, then the two screws holding the tube to the back wall. I had to pull the connections through the back wall of the oven, and disconnect them. I then removed the two screws holding the igniter to the old tube, and used them to connect the new igniter to the new tube. At that time, I also had to cut the old connections off of the old ignighter, and put them on the new one. I also had to redo the connection to the gas valve at the bottom of the tube. I then put all the wire and connections back through the hole in the back of the oven, connect the tube back to the rear of the oven, and the single screw to hold the end of the tube. I replaced the the heat shield, and tested. Everything worked fine. Read more...

Oven wouldn't light, burners worked fine (gas oven).
Unplugged the power cord from the oven. Unfortunately I couldn't figure out how to remove the broiler drawer so I didn't have a lot of room to work. Basically I had to unscrew one Phillips screw to remove the metal housing that shields the wiring and connectors from direct flame of the oven. Once I removed the housing it was a matter of removing 2 wire caps where the wires from the igniter spliced into the power source. Once the wires were disconnected, I unscrewed the 2 Phillips screws that attached the igniter to the mounting bracket and removed the old igniter. I had to cut the wires on the new igniter to the correct length and stripped the insulation so about 1/4" of bare wire was exposed to splice to the wire from the power source. I then attached the igniter to the mounting bracket (2 screws), twisted the wires together to connect to the power and attached the wire connector caps. I reinstalled the protective housing (1 screw) making sure the wires were clear and not being pinched. Plugged the power cord back in, turned the oven on and everything worked fine. Read more...

Igniter no longer worked
remove all loose components on range top (grates, caps, disbursement / diffuser heads. Take a T-15 screw driver and unscrew each of the three screws on each burner. Have a large flat headed screwdriver ready. Lift up on the front lid of the range, it should life about 1/4 inch. There are two clips that hold it down, about 6 - 8 inches in from either side. Press then towards the back (away from you) one at a time, while lifting on the lid.. it should pop free. WARNING: if you did not remove the torx screws first, be careful are you will now bend the gas lines running to the burner. Once loose, remove the old clip from the igniter, so that it lifts free. unplug the igniter from the electrical cable (pulls out from bottom). attach new clip to new igniter and re-attach electrical line to new igniter. close lid and re-attach all torx screws. Reassemble range top and you are complete. Read more...
