This light bulb is located on the inside of your microwave. The bulb is behind the top grill. It will need to be replaced when it has burnt out and no longer works. Unplug the unit before beginning this repair. Remove the top grill of your microwave, use your screwdriver to open the light socket, scrape off any silicone holding the bulb in place, clean the area of any oil and dirt, insert the new bulb into the socket without touching the bulb, slide the holder back into place, line up the tabs on top of the metal plate, and secure the holder back into place.

Lens cracked and bulbs burned out
First I removed the single screw holding the lens assembly in place. Then I lowered the assembly and tilted it until it came out. To remove the existing cracked glass lens there were four tabs bent down on it. By hand I lifted each tab just enough to remove the broken lens. I then replaced the broken lens with the new one and re-bent the tabs down by hand to secure them to the new lens.

The lens assembly, now removed, revealed the cavity that contained the two halogen bulbs. Since they were both burned out for days, they weren't hot so I could pull each one out by hand. The bulbs are secured by two straight heavy gauge wire leads and provided a little resistance but come out fairly easily. Make a mental note of the angle they came out so it will be easier to replace them with new ones.

You're not supposed to touch halogen bulbs with your bare hands, so I used the bubble wrap they came in as a means to hold the bulb while installing it.

Be sure to insert the bulbs at the same angle they came out so the pins do not get bent.

Once both bulbs are in place, replace the lens cover assembly by putting the end opposite where the screw hole goes in first on the right, then swing it up until flush and screw it down.

This part is the replacement oven bulb lens cover. It is made of glass and is approximately 3 inches in diameter. The lens cover is rigid and protects the oven light bulb from being damaged. The main reason to replace the oven bulb lens cover is if it is cracked, damaged, or missing. Be sure that the lens cover is cool to the touch before you begin this repair. To remove the lens cover simply turn it counterclockwise until you can remove it. Replace it with a new cover and turn it clockwise to lock it into place. I Tried to remove Oven Light and got a spark that took out the Control Panel.
Oven light was easy - Snapped the Wire Bail, removed the Glass Protect and removed the buld. Installed new bulb, installed Glass Protect and snapped the Wire Bail. The Control Panel was a little harder and had to remove the 4 screws holding the metal Back Plate cover. I wrote down all the wire connections and then unplugged the wires. I took a 1/4 nutdriver and removed 4 screws holding Control panel in place and removed the Panel. The new control panel did not come with the Switch Face Plate so I removed the old one with a razor blade. The Switch Face Plate had plenty of adhessive so I just aligned the Face Plate with the Control Panel and seated it in place - thankfully it held firmly. I installed the Control Panel with Face Plate into the range and secured it with 4 screws using nutdriver. I plugged the wire connectors into the Control Panel and installed the Metal Back Plate to the range and secured it with 4 screws. Plugged the Range into the sockets and checked it for operation. Everything worked Ok including the new oven light. Read more...

Oven light burned out
Wait until oven is cold. Turn off power to the oven at the breaker panel (confirm: clock will be off). Open oven door. Remove upper rack. Unscrew glass cover over lamp and socket (it only turns one direction and may be tight). Slide cover off lamp socket. Remove old lamp - pull straight down. Install replacement lamp. Lamp pins line up front to back. Do not touch the lamp - use latex gloves. Make sure the lamp is fully pushed into its socket. Replace the glass cover by centering it on the socket with glass retaining tabs close to the matching areas on the metal socket. Take care not to damage the lamp. Turn the cover to lock in place. Make sure it is locked. Replace oven rack. Turn the power back on. Read more...
