Common LG Refrigerator Problems and How to Fix Them

When you are having issues with your LG refrigerator it might seem overwhelming, but there are a lot of simple DIY fixes that will solve your problem. We cover a few of the most common LG refrigerator symptoms, how you should approach them, and the LG fridge parts you will need to fix them. You will have your refrigerator back in working order in no time!

Noisy LG Refrigerator – It can be alarming if you hear new or worsening noises coming from your LG fridge, but often troubleshooting these issues is simple. You will first want to identify the general area the noise is coming from, and what the sound is. Some common sounds that might be coming from your LG fridge are buzzing, humming, clicking, and knocking. Most often these sounds are caused by moving parts like the condenser fan motor and evaporator fan motor. A scraping sound is typically one of the internal fans contacting something as it spins. If your fridge starts making a rattling noise you will want to make sure the appliance is level, and the drain pan is properly secured. It is important to remember that a mild humming noise is normal, but if you notice an increased humming sound, the compressor might be overworked.

Leaking LG Refrigerator – Water leaking from your LG fridge is not as scary as it seems, most often it is a sign the gaskets and seals are not flush with the appliance. Hot air getting in leads to condensation. It is important to fix this quickly, so you are not overworking other parts of the appliance like the compressor. Anytime you spot a leak you will want to take note where the water is pooling and look for nearby causes, whether it is condensation, or water lines. We always recommend people inspect door gaskets and seals, inlet valves, water lines, and the icemaker. These are the most common culprits when it comes to LG refrigerator leaks.

LG Refrigerator Will Not Run – When the compressor in your fridge will not run it will not be able to maintain a cool temperature. There are a few parts that work together to monitor and communicate the temperature, and when it reaches a certain point the compressor will run and start the cooling process over again. If any of those parts is not working the compressor might not know when it needs to run. This is why we recommend you start by inspecting the start capacitor, overload, temperature control, or control board. If you have ruled those parts out the issue may be with the compressor itself.

LG Icemaker Not Making Ice – If the icemaker in your LG fridge is not making ice it could be as simple as a bail arm being stuck in an engaged position. If the ice maker senses the ice bin is full it will not make more ice. So, before you begin troubleshooting take a quick look in the ice bin to make sure the bail arm is not engaged. Once you have that ruled out you will want to consider if water supply is an issue. We recommend inspecting the water line, water inlet valve, and water filter.

LG Refrigerator Too Warm – Most often when your LG fridge is not cold enough it is a simple fix. This does not always signal a control board issue. The way we suggest you tackle this is by ruling out the simple fixes first. Starting with ensuring that the LG fridge is properly stocked. If that is not a concern you will then want to consider air circulation, if the air is not able to easily circulate it will make it difficult for the fridge to cool or maintain a cool temperature. To do this you will want to make sure the air damper or baffle is undamaged and unblocked. If that is fine you should then inspect the evaporator fan, condenser fan, and the temperature senor.
