The mower slows down going uphill, almost coming to a complete stop. Is this a belt slipping?
For model number GTX2446
Hi Mark,
Thank you for your question. If your lawn tractor slows down or comes to complete stop when you go up hill, this can be caused by a number of things. If your blades have a build of mud or grass on them this can cause the engine to work harder and the mower will slow down. If the air filter is clogged you will need to either clean or replace it. Make sure before you use your lawn tractor that the fuel tank is full and and that the oil is at the correct level. A lack of fuel can prevent the mower from working correctly and it may stop going uphill. If the carburetor or muffler are clogged you will need to clean or replace them. If the spark plug is dirty clean or replace it. If you have any questions, please let us know. We are open 7 days a week. We look forward to hearing from you!

When I engage the blades they do not spin
For model number GTX2446
Hi Jom, thank you for reaching out. According to our research, the issue is most probably related to the drive belt, part number PS9171696, which might be worn out. We hope this solves your problem!

The parking brake button is stuck down and will not release, therefore the mower will not start while it is down and pushing on the foot brake does not release it.
For model number GTX2446
Hi Dale,
Thank you for your question. If the parking brake button is stuck and will not release, it should be replaced. The brake control button listed for your model, part number 931-04217, has been discontinued by MTD and you will need to contact them to see if they have information on a replacement. If they provide you with a part number for a replacement, you may call us back with it and we will verify if we have it available for you. If you have any questions, please let us know.
To disconnect the steering shaft to replace the bearing, there is a #3 Philips head screw on the underside of the deck which needs to be taken out. Chances are it hasn't been replaced before, so it is likely very tight. I ended up dropping the deck to allow for more room but it could probably be done with the deck in place the way I had t
... Read moreo do it. I had someone hold the steering wheel up top (not undoing the 13mm bolt holding the steering wheel in) and tried to unscrew the Philips, even after heating it with a torch still stripped out. The only way I could get the screw out was to take a pair of Vice Grips adjusted extremely tight to the outside of the screw and put the torch on it to heat it again. Then, turn the steering wheel to the left and when the Vice Grips get caught on the bottom of the mower, it will unthread the steering wheel from the screw. After the screw and washer are out *TAKE NOTE OF THE ORIENTATION OF THE WASHER*, I went to the hardware store and replaced the screw with a bolt that was 5/16 - 18 x .750 which was the closest length they had, took out the worn out bearing, popped in the new one, reinstalled the washer and bolt, then the deck. Even if you get the philips screw out without using Vice Grips, I would still recommend replacing it with a bolt.
