Water Filter Specifications

This water filter is a genuine replacement for bottom-freezer refrigerators that accept a Filter 2. it is certified to remove up to 24 different contaminants which include pharmaceuticals, waterborne parasites, lead, and pesticides. The filter should be replaced every six months, or when 200 gallons of water have passed through, to ensure optimum contaminant reduction. The filter is found in the top right corner of your fridge, and replacing it is easy. Simply pop out the old one (keep a bucket underneath to catch any water) and slide in the new one. No Problem This was a simple replacement of the water filter.
Lower the filter cover on the refrigerator, twist the old filter to remove it, install the new filter by pushing and twisting it, and close the filter door.
Using a pitcher, run water through the new filter until the excess carbon leavings are out then the water is clear and is drinkable

Had a hard time getting the refridgerator part of the filter to LET GO. The grooves weren't lined up with the areas meant to pinch. A knife on each side got it to release.
Thanks.
Have a good one.

Replacing the water filter has always been difficult, but this time it is really stuck. I'm afraid if i twist or pull any harder i will break the assembly that the filter plugs into. Any suggestions? I've turned off the water pressure & drawn water out of the line, that didn't help. I've researched the internet for ideas, nothing that has helped, yet! Any ideas would be appreciated. Lloyd ludlam

Hi Lloyd, thanks for the question. When it comes to replacing the water filter, most models simply twist out with a quarter turn to the left. You may consider wearing a glove with some grip on it, or gripping the filter with a towel in order to twist it effectively. As long as you're turning the filter to the left, and not pulling outward on it too hard, you shouldn't have a problem with the assembly. I hope this helps, and best of luck with the repair.

We were told that since we have the in-door water system hooked up to an or water system we do not need the water filter #edr2rxd1. They also told us we did not have to do anything once we took it out. Since we took it out, it has been leaking water out of the little holes in the top inside refrigerator right next to where the filter plugs in. Do we really need to have a filter in there, or is there a plug made to use when you don't use a filter?

Hi Kathy, Thank you for the question. There is no bypass needed for this model number. You should be able to just remove the filter. If you are having leaking the filter housing might need to be replaced. Hope this helps!

I replaced the water filter. How do i turn off the “replace filter” prompt
For model number WRF736SDAM
PartSelect logo
Hi Al, Thank you for your question. Your filter change light is only a timer. It has nothing to do with the actual filter inside of your refrigerator. You can reset the filter change light normally by holding the button down or check with your manual. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

I installed an osmosis system that supplies the refrigerator. Due to the additional filters my refrigerator is not producing ice; one of the suggested fixes is a bypass or blank filter. Can this model get by without such a thing?
For model number WRX988SIBM00
PartSelect logo
Hello Gary, Thanks for your question. There is no bypass for your model. You can just remove the water filter and it will auto-bypass. I hope this helps.

Changed water filter for 3rd time since we bought it and now it leaks from the filter area. Followed procedure twice but still leaks. Is this a do it yourself repair?
For model number WRV986FDEM01
PartSelect logo
Hello Rd, Thank you for the question. Yes, replacing the filter is a do it your self repair. The leak could be caused by a defective filter or a damaged filter head. I suggest checking the filter head where the filter plugs into for any damage that would cause the leak. Hope this helps, good luck with this repair!

Having difficulty removing water filter, concerned about breaking it by force. Do you need to push in while turning left to remove old filter? /cap came off but filter not moving
For model number WRF993FIFM00
PartSelect logo
Thank you for your question. The filter in your appliance is located under the unit. If you look at the kick plate grille at the bottom of the unit, there will be a circular cap that you turn counter clockwise and then pull out. This will release the filter so that you can reinstall the new one. There is also an installation video you can watch, on our site.
