Sample Model Number Tags
Model numbers can be made up of numbers (1005400, for example) or a combination of letters and numbers (LAT1000AAE). The model number will most likely appear on either a paper sticker or a metal plate. Your appliance's model number tag may look similar to the sample model number tags shown here (model number highlighted in yellow):
This black lid switch assembly comes complete with a bracket, two switches, and a fuse. An open fuse might indicate that the lid switch is bad. The point of the lid switch is for the tub to stop spinning when the washer lid is opened. It is a safety precaution just in case someone decides to stick their hand inside the washer while the tub is spinning.
How Buying OEM Parts Can Save You Time and Money

While I am quite happy with the repair part, the 2-3 day premium delivery I paid for worked out to more like 8 days. Not your fault but don’t offer 2-3 day shipping if it won’t happen.

1992 Clothes washer died mid-cycle
Replaced the lid switch assembly, works like a charm. 10 minute repair, 4 screws for the front panel, one for the switch assembly. Be careful not to break the plastic tabs that hold the right side of the assembly. As someone else noted, adjust the assembly front/back in the screw slot so the switch activates properly for open/close.<

Washer filled but not agitate or drain.
I watched the video suggested by Part Select, it was easy to follow. I had first changed the belts because they were worn but that wasn't the problem, the next suggestion was the lid switch assembly which was the answer. This washer was produced in 1989 and works like new again!

Seals on both Door refrigerator cracked and torn

Washer fills but would not drain. Pushing the lid switch in and out several times would actuate the switch.
Remove the rear panel covering the control panel. Remove the two screws on each side of the upper control panel. The top removes with gentle (or not so gentle) taps toward the front of the washer. Lift the upper away but be careful of the attached wires. Top must be removed or switch cannot be removed as it cannot pass the cycle selector.

Reattach wires to appropriate places, replace top control panel and reattach screws, replace rear panel.
Washer would fill but wouldnt do anything else including drain
I followed video instructions which were very helpful and getting to the lid switch assembly was not difficult. After putting it on we still had nothing. After some troubleshooting I was pretty confident it was the Lid safety switch
Based upon my research on line and my 'hunch' I ordered the Lid Safety Switch for this old Maytag Washer. Got the part in good time and it was very well packaged. I tried replacing the timer. My washer fills with water but timer won't advance, agitate or spin when I manually advance the timer and pull out click by click. Does a door switch sound like my problem?
For model number LAT9704AAM
Hello Larry, Thank you for the question. Yes, the next part suggested to replace is the Lid Switch Assembly. Thank you for your inquiry, good luck with this repair!

The washer does not always drain. Sometimes resetting the dial back to the start will get it to drain at end of cycle, sometimes not. Because it works fine one time and not the next i do not think it is a hose/drain problem. It does not seem to be a misbalance issue. Possible problem?
For model number LAT8234AAE
Hi Doug,
Thank you for your question. It actually would not hurt for you to check if there is anything blocking your drain pump at all. It could be that there is a clog in your pump or your hose. Just to cover all your bases. Electrically though, you should test your list switch. If that part is malfunctioning, the machine believes that the lid is open, so when it gets to the spin cycle, it will not allow your appliance to spin and drain for safety reasons. The only other part to check would be your timer itself. Good luck with your repair.

My Maytag washer model lat9734aae will not agitate, but it does fill, drain, and spin. I have replaced the two belts underneath. I cannot move the agitator at all by hand. I've disassembled the agitator to see if there are cogs that are worn i can't see anything, as there is a spindle that is solidly attached to tub bottom. Any ideas? I see posts for lid switch problems, but as the washer spins, could i rule this out? Thanks for whatever help you can suggest.
For model number LAT9734AAE
Hi Patricia, thank you for your question. The only way to rule that part out would be to test it with a multi meter and make sure it is working correctly. There are other parts to check for an issue like this though. You could take a look at your belts, mounting stem/tub seal kit, and your tub bearing. Basically with those parts you will want to see if they are worn out and need replacing. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

My washing machine will fill, stop then the cycle will not continue to wash after I first foung the fuse blown on lid switch assembly then replaced it. Do I need a new switch assembly or a new timer motor?
For model number Maytag A9800 washing Machine
Hi JD,
Thank you for your question. If your washer is stopping mid-cycle, there are some parts that you will need to check to see which one is causing the issue. You will need to check the pump, the motor, the timer, the lid switch assembly and the water inlet valve. You should also check to see that the drain hose is not clogged. We have included a link that you may reference on how check these parts. We hope this helps! Good luck with the repair!
Washer will not start when wash cycle are selected on selector switch

Unit works on quick wash but on other cycles fills for second rinse but then stops. You can advance manually and works. Does this sound like a lid switch or timer?
For model number LAT8904AAE
Hi Shane, Thank you for the question. This would be an issue with the Washer Timer,PartSelect Number PS11739262.The timer controls most of the operations of the washer. Hope this helps!

Maytag washer in regular washing works on warm/warm without a problem. If on any other temperature setting, it fills with water, washes, it finishes spin cycle then click, click and then does not go into rinse cycle. If i now turn the temperature setting to warm/warm it continues, but if i quickly turn to any other temperature setting it stops. If using cold/cold setting, after it stops before starting the rinse cycle, i can push the button in and advance it a couple of clicks and then it will continue to run the rest of the way. What part is suspect? Temperature switch (no longer available so i hope it isn't the problem), water inlet valve or the timer? Thank you for taking the time to answer my query.
For model number LAT9604ABE
Hello Geoff and thanks for writing.
Sounds like you may have a bad lid switch assembly #PS11739302, failed timer # PS11739264 or wiring problem.
Older model Maytag will fill with water but will not advance to any selecting washing or spin or rinse it will just fill with water
For model number LAT8420AAW
Hi Paul,
Thank you for your question. If your timer is not advancing there are some parts that you will need to check to see which one is causing the issue. You will need to check the lid switch, the lid check switch assembly, the lid switch and the timer knob spring. We hope this helps! Good luck with the repair!
