Model numbers can be made up of numbers (1005400, for example) or a combination of letters and numbers (LAT1000AAE). The model number will most likely appear on either a paper sticker or a metal plate. Your appliance's model number tag may look similar to the sample model number tags shown here (model number highlighted in yellow):
This part is found in your washer. The pin on the lid pushes on the lever of the lid switch to tell the machine that the lid is closed. This part includes the green grounding wire. If your machine is having trouble starting, is not agitating, spinning, or is not draining properly, this could be because the lid switch has broken. You will need a 5/16-inch nut driver for this repair. The package will contain one lid switch. You will need to access the back of the washer, and remove the two Phillips screws that hold the top back panel in place. Slide the panel forward to release. Use your nut driver to loosen the screw that holds the ground wire in place. Lift the lid of the washer to release the old lid switch.

Unplugged the main power. Removed the 2 screws in the back and top of the control panel. Pulled control panel forward and tipped towards me to remove from top of washer. Unplug the washer. Used flat blade screwdriver under each end of the control housing on top of the machine. This popped the spring clips and allowed the control housing to be lifted up and rotated out of the way. Once out of the way, lift clip on wiring harness to lid switch, then pull the harness off. Two problems - washer stopped and had to open and close lid several times to restart. Problem 2 - could not get inlet valve to take in hot water.
1. Read a repair manual that I bought several years ago for this model. Pictures and notes for removing control panel and back cover of washer were very helpful. Replacing the lid switch was easy as long as you have the lid open when locking it down. The control valve was easy and I swapped out wires one
... Read moreat a time to make sure I didn't swap hot for cold. I then removed valve and locked down new one. Reversing the control panel and back skin were easy with a second set of hands to hold the back panel in place while installing two bottom screws. The parts resolved the problems.

Thanks for your quick reply to my question of how to access the lid switch. Unfortunately my unit does not have the two screws in the back of the control panel. Mine is a performa series unit purchased in 2008.

Hi John,
Thank you for getting back to us. Before beginning any repair, please unplug the appliance from the electrical outlet or turn the circuit breaker off. First, pull the washer away from the wall to access the backside. Once removed from the wall you will need to loosen the Philips head screws holding the back panel in place. You will need to slide the top panel forward to release it from the mounting tabs. Rotate back the top panel which will expose the existing lid switch. Use a nut driver to remove the screw holding the ground wire in place. Lift up the top lid which will move an arm inside that connects to the switch by moving that arm it will allow you to remove the switch. Squeeze on the release tab to remove the switch and disconnect the wiring harness that goes to the lid switch. Reconnect the new switch to the wiring harness. Lift up the lid again and position the new switch and push it down so it clips into place. Lower the lid and connect the ground wire and screw it in place. With the switch installed, take the top panel and roll it back down into position and align the top panels mounting tabs then lock it into place. Use a Phillips head screw driver to tighten the remaining 2 screws into place. Reconnect the power cord or turn the circuit breaker back on and the washer should be ready to use. How do i access lid switch?

Thank you for your inquiry. There is a repair story that one of our customers provided on how they installed the part. The customer advised, "I removed the two screws on the back of the control panel. The control panel then flips back. The switch is on the left side. To remove the switch, I first detached the wire to the control panel and unscrewed the grounding wire. The new switch drops right in. I had a little trouble getting it in until I realized the washer lid had to be open. A little awkward but once it's in you can shut the lid and then I reattached the wire from the control panel and screwed in the grounding wire. Pretty easy. $20 for the part (with shipping) and 15 minutes. Way cheaper than a repairman." I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

The lid switch in my washer got burned so what i did was, connect directly, the Green and gray cables, it was working ok, but now, sometimes it works ok, and sometimes won't do anything, except fill itself with water, do you guys think if i buy the lid switch it will work ok once again??

Thank you for your inquiry. I believe that yes it should. Bypassing your lid switch can sometimes just be a temporary thing and may not work for very long. Reinstalling a working switch may fix the issue that you are having if nothing else went wrong. Good luck with your repair.

Thank you for your inquiry. If your timer is not advancing the lid switch is the most common part that will fix the issue. Some other parts you may have to look at as well are the timer, the water level control, the timer knob and skirt, the drain pump and the water inlet valve. For the electrical parts, I would use a multimeter to check the continuity on each of them. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Hi Nimish, Thank you for the question. This sounds like an issue with the lid switch assembly. You can also try to manually turn or tap the knob to the timer to see if that triggers it to proceed. If this starts the cycle again, it would be the timer. Hope this helps!

My washer goes through the wash cycle fine, but it stops when it gets to the rinse cycle. However, if i manually advance it a click, it will then continue through the rinse and finish out the cycle. I wondered if it was a problem with the lid switch, but i thought that wouldn't work at all on the rinse/spin cycle if the lid switch were faulty. Can you help me diagnose the problem?

Hello Rich, Thank you for the question. If you can manually turn the knob and have the rinse cycle start, the lid switch is fine. This sounds like a defective timer not advancing, PartSelect Number PS11746307. I suggest replacing the Timer. Hope this helps, good luck with this repair!
When filling, water starts filling, then stops, starts and stops several times before it's done filling. I don't do anything to start it again. Goes on and off by itself.

Hi, I looked on line for reason my Whirlpool ultimate care ii model top loader #lsb6200pq0 will not agitate, spin or drain. The answer I found on line is that my lid switch is probably bad and will need a new one. It's been rather difficult to find the correct part. Some are just a switch with a ground wire others are switch with wire harness and ground wire. My question is if I go and purchase this switch which I believe to be the correct on, and it's not can iI return it? Thank for your help.
