Sample Model Number Tags
Model numbers can be made up of numbers (1005400, for example) or a combination of letters and numbers (LAT1000AAE). The model number will most likely appear on either a paper sticker or a metal plate. Your appliance's model number tag may look similar to the sample model number tags shown here (model number highlighted in yellow):
The speed control lever on your stand mixer allows you to adjust the speed that the mixer is running at. The lever is approximately 3.5 inches long, with a black plastic handle at the top. The speed control lever connects to the interior of your stand mixer, so you will have to take it apart to access the bar that the lever is attached to. Once you’ve opened the mixer, you can unscrew the old lever, taking care not to misplace the screw or washer that holds it in place. Replace the old lever with the new one, and then put the mixer back together.
How Buying OEM Parts Can Save You Time and Money
Why buy the real thing?
OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. Simply put, this means that the company who made your appliance is also supplying the replacement part for it.

Easy repair and works as expected.
I did not have any problems installing the speed control level. I did however have to redo the disassembly to tighten the screw securely in order to prevent the speed control level from slipping out of the off position.

Speed control arm
The part was an exact match to the original on a KSM 150 Tilt Kitchen Aid Mixer. It was easy to install once the housing was disassembled. Our original was bent when the mixer fell over after 15 years of use.

Perfect Replacement, follow my step by step instructions
Kitchen Maid Artisan Mixer took a tumble and fell on the speed control arm, bending it into an unmovable position. Needed replacement. Since Bidenflation has kept the family with less $ for repairs, heat and food, we have been making large quantities of food and freezing it in small batches including baked goods. Found this part on line at a reasonable price and reviewed media on how to replace it. A little involved, but follow step by step and you can do it. Be sure the mixer is on newspaper or a rag to prevent grease drips from spoiling your work surface. First Unplug the mixer. Remove screw on top of the rear dome piece and then remove end cap. Shimmy out the power cord at the bottom. Go forward along the body of the mixer and with a small flat head screw driver place it under the outer metal ring surrounding the planetary and gently wedge it off. Remove the planetary by taking a small finishing nail driver and tapping the pin through the center post. Don't lose the pin. Take a flat head screw driver and wedging it softly up and down along the edge of the planetary while gently twisting the planetary back and forth it should come off exposing 5 screws for removal. Remove the 5 planetary screws. There are 4 more screws to remove off the bottom of the body of the mixer, 2 in the middle and 2 in back. Remove them. Now with a gentle rocking back and forth motion of the top piece, lift it off the body bottom piece. The speed control lever is easy to spot attached by one screw in the middle. Remove the screw with a Phillips screw driver, try not to drop it in the grease, lift the arm and replace with the new speed control arm and old screw. While you're in there you might notice the grease has migrated off the gears into a mass along side, with vinyl gloves push the grease pile back over the gears for future lubrication and longtime gear protection. Reverse steps and wallah you've saved yourself a lot of money during these difficult times.

Mixer was overloaded, and began to smell hot and make noise. Did not recover when load was removed.
I disassembled the mixer using a YouTube video as a guide. Disassembly was easy, as everything was held together with pins and threaded fasteners, and all electrical connections were plug-on.
Cleaning out the old grease was messy and time-consuming. I used a putty knife, screwdrivers (used them like small putty knives in the
... Read morecrevasses), paper towels, and finally, small cloths dampened with alcohol. After about a hour (maybe 90 minutes) everything actually looked like new.
I originally diagnosed the problem as the plastic gear loosening up from it's hub, so I ordered the complete gear tower assembly. It turned out not to be the problem- the gears were fine. With the gears removed to eliminate load, I applied power and saw that the original symptom was still there.
Further research turned up that this symptom is more likely a failed field coil, or possibly the phase control board. I ordered both from PartSelect. In the meantime, I tested the armature by measuring the resistance across the brushes as I slowly turned it by hand. At every angle, the resistance was about 7.5 ohms. Nothing lower, and no opens, so I'm pretty sure the armature is OK.
The phase control board arrived, but as of this writing, the field coil has been back ordered for almost a month. While I waited, I tried a partial reassembly of the head with the new board, and it worked! This weekend, I'll finish reassembly of the motor unit to the base/gearbox and calibrate the speed governor. In addition to the new gear tower and phase control board, it has new grease, seals, and both side levers (tilt and speed control) that had lost their knobs some time ago.
Hopefully it will be ready for another quarter century of use!
Watched a YouTube video to disassemble, from there went smoothly. One small piece of advice, take pictures with your smart phone during the process. Makes remembering easier.
Pulled the Knob off of the new Lever then pressed it on the old Lever. I had to order the whole lever because it was the part nearest the knob in the illustrated parts break-down. I RECOMMEND THAT THE KNOB BE ADDED TO THE ILLUSTRATED PARTS BREAK-DOWN.

the control lever won't stay in the off position. do i need to replace the lever?
For model number ksm90bu
Hello Chris, thank you for asking. Our research shows that you may need to replace the control spring, part number PS11740854. This spring is attached to the lever and controls its position. If replacing the spring does not work, you may need to replace the lever, part number PS11747016. We would also recommend checking the screw, part number PS11738270. A loose or damaged screw can also cause this issue. Please reach out to customer service if you need help placing an order. Glad to be of help!
The plastic knob of the speed control lever broke. Can I get just the plastic knob - I don't want to take any risks by taking apart the whole machine to replace the lever. Thx
For model number KS150
Hi Florian, Thank you for the question. The knob should stay attached to the lever for proper operation so they can not be sold separate. Hope this helps!
