Noisy damper
Easy fix, it's right in the back of the fridge under a cover that just clips in, a piece of foam, and two screws. The hardest part is getting the clips free without breaking them. After replacement it's silent instead of making a grinding noise regularly.

Noisy, running constantly motor in damper unit.
Unsnapped and pulled off small cover exsposing two phillips head screws. I removed larger cover and styrofoam insert fully exsposing the damper unit. i unplugged same and with a 1/2 inch wood chisel was able to release the "snaps" holding the old unit in place. Simply reverse procedure to install new unit.

Control noisy when opening and closing removed damper housing
Pop off vent cover remove 2 screws removed cover housing and foam. Removed damper by unclipping tabs on left and right side of control lift up and out. Unplugged power wires reinstalled in reverse order.

Fresh Food Compartment occasionally going down to 28-30 degrees F
Failure detected as Damper Control at upper rear of compartment would continuously open/close, would never stay open or closed. ... Read more out after disassembly of the defective damper, the internal microswitch was stuck in the closed position so it wouldn't shut off the motor. Easy fix by gently pulling the cover off the damper control, pull out Styrofoam encasement, then a phillips to remove the damper assembly. Gently push tabs to release wire connectors. Reverse the process and you're done! If I really wanted to go on the cheap, I could have just changed the microswitch, but that looked like a shaky maneuver at best. This site saved me on this one, so happy to share my experience with this Maytag and its nasty habit of freezing my milk and eggs!! :)

I had two problems
one was the refrig wasn't holding temperature properly, sometimes too cold, sometimes too warm. Also the cold water dispenser didn't work at all. First, IMPORTANT! ... Read morehlight this! It would be nice if their website checked to see if different parts are available for your model and ask if you checked this important fact. They were very good to replace the wrong part with the right one and refund the amount of the returned part. On my model, the first two digits of the serial number denotes the series number, which means you may need a 'series' specific model part. After getting the correct parts, replacing the damper control solved the temperature control issues and the refrige is actually quieter now (It used to make sounds as the damper opened or closed). My unit used a 'series 10' version and there was no need to purchase the harness, as I just used the old one. Replacing the dual water valve solved the issue with my water dispenser not working. I'm good with hand tools so both of these were easy for me using just basic tools.

the upper half of the refrigerator wasn't being cooled
I called the repairman and he troubleshot the problem and told me that he could order the part or that I could. He quickly explained what to do. I ordered the part it came in with 2 days during that time I looked up on how to remove and replace the part on the website. The website stated it took around 15 minutes. That is all it took.

Noisy Control
Remove cover inside frig at rearwall top with screw driver. Remove phillips screws holding unit in place. Unclip connectors ,and replace in reverse order.

My fridge section is too cold. Would like to check the damper control assembly. Looking at the parts list, it appears that I have to remove the icemaker assembly to access it. Is this correct? Is there any way to check motor function if the flapper doesn't appear to be stuck? Thanks

Hi Steve, Thank you for the question. You shoudl not have to remove the icemaker to install this damper. Here is a repair story from a previous customer ``Unsnap damper louver cover using only your fingernails at bottom. Remove two phillips screws from damper cover. Remove styrofoam molded insulation. Squeeze electrical connector to release latch; unplug connector. Release latches on both sides of damper control while gently pulling on damper control unit to remove it. Install new unit by doing above steps in reverse. Damper door may move when electrics connected; keep fingers clear.`` You can test the motor with a Multi Meter and check for continuity. We would recommend checking the following parts to fix your issue: damper control assembly, thermistor, defrost thermostat, evaporator fan motor, and the defrost heater. You can test the parts with a multimeter. If you are unfamiliar with how a multimeter functions, there are YouTube videos available to assist you. Hope this helps!

My fridge doesn't let me control the temp. The digital numbers for the freezer and refrigerator start running like crazy. The freezer stays in 5 and the fridge in 7 the coldest.

Fridge compartment is too cold, freezing eggs, vegetables, etc. Even with control panel set to 45 degrees. How can i tell if it is the control panel, the thermostat, or the airflow regulator? Should i start with the cheapest part and move toward more costly? Thanks! Jim

Thank you for your question. You would be able to test your most of those parts with a multi meter. You would basically check both the thermostat and the damper assembly for continuity to make sure they are working. You may also want to look at your evaporator fan motor as well. It could be that it is continually blowing too much air into you fridge portion. If all of those parts are fine, then I would suggest taking a look at your control board. I hope that helps. Where is damper control located in this model

Hello Rondal, thank you for your question. The Damper control assembly part number WPW10196393 is not the correct replacement part for your unit. The the damper, or diffuser for your unit ( part number W10861170) is toward the back of the fridge at the top, right in the middle. This is just a little channel that will allow air to flow into the fridge. I hope this helps!

Does this unit incorporate an internal fan? Emits rattle type sound that dissipates in a short period of time.

Hi Kurt, Thank you for the question. Depending on where the noise is coming from, there are two fans. The fan in the freezer is the Freezer Evaporator Fan Motor,PartSelect Number: PS11748697. There is also a fan that blows air onto the compressor, PartSelect Number: PS11750853. Hope this helps!

Thank you for your inquiry. The damper control assembly is one of the parts that may fix the issue. There are some other parts that you will need to check to see which one is causing the issue. You will need to check the defrost thermostat kit, the electronic control board, the condenser fan motor, the compressor start device and capacitor, the run capacitor, the defrost thermostat, the evaporator fan motor and the defrost heater.
