Sample Model Number Tags
Model numbers can be made up of numbers (1005400, for example) or a combination of letters and numbers (LAT1000AAE). The model number will most likely appear on either a paper sticker or a metal plate. Your appliance's model number tag may look similar to the sample model number tags shown here (model number highlighted in yellow):
This 6-pin shift actuator is an authentic OEM part supplied directly by the manufacturer for use in washing machines. The shift actuator is responsible for controlling the movement of the washer transmission during the different phases of the wash cycle. This allows the washer to switch between agitating and spinning modes. Signs of a faulty shift actuator include the washer failing to agitate or spin, incomplete cycles where the washer gets stuck in one phase, or unusual noises during operation

Thought we needed a new shift actuator but after getting the parts and starting the replacement noticed the capacitor had come loose and was banging around under the washer. Washing machine would not spin clothes, little to no agitation
Our 5 year old Kenmore washing machine broke. The first symptom was that the clothes would come out completely wet. This was due to no spin cycle. The second symptom was that the washing machine had little to no agitation. The lid still locked shut, there was no odor, and you could hear the machine running.
In the event a machi
... Read morene does not agitate or spin, the diagnostics on this website will lead you to believe that drive hub assembly or shift actuator is the problem. The drive hub assembly is by far the more common repair (the pieces are made of plastic and are designed to wear out). If you are torn, go with the drive hub kit repair. That's what it was.
There were some surprises after carefully watching the how to video. First, the agitator in my machine was very tall and required a socket wrench extension to reach the drive hub nut. This will require two sets of hands. Second, the drive hub nut was stuck to the point where I nearly gave up. WD-40 and degreaser did not work to loosen. I ended up pouring a half teaspoon of powdered soap onto the stuck nut to get more grip on the nut. This, along with two sets of hands, got it loose. Third, calibrating machine was barely touched on in the video but this is extremely difficult, the instructions that come with the part were insufficient, and the videos on the internet are not that good. In the end, I'm not sure that the machine ever calibrated. In essence, the machine is re-calibrated by turning the switch in a specific sequence of right to left. Lights are then supposed to flash. This never did anything. I ended up opening and shutting the lid 10 times in 10 seconds as this was allegedly a way to recalibrate.
Note: 2018 and later washing machines suck because of California and the federal government rules and pressure to make them "green". Well, they don't work that well anymore as a result. Keep this in mind when you vote.

Agitator would not spin, causing when tried to shift into high speed spin. It would cause tub to go out of balance.
First had to take the top of the agitator off to expose the bolt down at the bottom of the agitator. Take a ratchet with 2 1/2 extensions to get bolt off had problems so I had to use impact gun. pull agitator straight up, was stuck a little bit, but once she giving her a few tugs, it popped off the hub. On top of the hub, there is a keywa
... Read morey. Use a straight screwdriver and tap it out sideways. Then remove six Phillips screws and the hub pulls out. Clean the splines really good before you put new hub in. Slide new hub in put six screws in. Tighten them down evenly. Put new keyway back in slide agitator back onto shaft. Bolt on,tighten down Bolt, put top agitator back on. Replacing shift actuator tilt washer up so you can get to the bottom side take a nut driver. There’s two screws on the shield remove them that exposes the shift actuator on the side of the transmission. Remove the harness there’s a clip you push and pull straight out and there’s two screws I believe they’re Phillips And it pulls straight down put new one up in there put the two screws back in make sure the plastic tab on the shift actuator went into the tab of the transmission replaced the wire harness, push it back in make sure it snaps in put shield back on,the two screws in,and you are ready. Once you have those parts back on, you have to reset the washer instructions in your manual. It tells you how to do it. you have to do this or your washer will not work properly.
Washer won’t go into spin cycle! Tries too but then stops
Replaced the drive belt and shift actuator but that did not fix the problem! So I ordered a transmission and this still did not fix it! I give up! Time to get a new washer!
After removal of wash plate bolt. Apply Liquid Wrench oil to wash plate spline shaft. Give time for oil to penetrate. In the time it took to disassemble the motor and gearbox the oil had worked. Give the wash plate a good knock with a rubber mallet several times. After that I was able to wiggle off the wash plate by hand without breaking
... Read moreanything. Be sure to pull straight up on the wash plate, any twisting or torquing will bind the spline and the wash plate wont move. The PartSelect YouTube video was perfect for the other parts of the repair.
Replaced the gears that were eaten up, the retainer and the actuated. All parts but the spring are plastic. Did all according to your instructions. Happy to report all went well. Washer is working again.

Hello,i have already replced the clutch assembly because it was making terrible howling noise. Noise is gone but now it wont spin the tub. When the spin cycle starts, it sounds like it wants to spin but then it makes a high speed rubbing noise. I took the lid lock off of the lid and inserted it into the lid lock switch to see what is going on during the spin cycle. I saw the impeller spins up fast for a few seconds and the tub appears to start spinning due to friction, but then it all stops, 30 seconds later it starts again and does the same thing. The tub never gets spinning under power, just friction.

Hello Frank, thank you for your question. I would recommend checking the ACTUATOR part number W10913953, and GEARCASE part number W10771760. If the unit is not spinning, but working otherwise the issue is probably the actuator part. I hope this helps!

Hello the other day while i was doing laundry my centennial was getting ready to go to the rinse cycle and agitate when it made this loud noise kind of like metal on metal sound and now will not agitate during the wash or rinse cycles but spins just fine. Conveniently my washer isn't covered by may tags so called 10 year replacement warranty they want me to pay 125.00 for a repair man just to diagnose my machine if i would have known that may tag is no longer american made but now comes from china i think i definitely would have bought a different machine please help me with this problem thanks ever so much
For model number MVWC415EW1
Hello Patty, thank you for your question. We would recommend checking the clutch part number W10721967, and the actuator part number W10913953. It sounds like the clutch broke and now the unit will not go from spin into agitate mode. Both of the above mentioned parts help to agitate the unit. I hope this helps!

How do i test a actuator
For model number wtw5000dw0
Hello Carlos, thank you for your question. Unfortunately, we do not have any information on testing that part. However, if the unit isn't shifting between agitate and spin, if the washer is not washing properly, clothing still soaking wet, will not agitate, burning smell, will not drain, unusual noises, pumps but will not spin the actuator may be faulty. I hope this helps!

It does not spin at the end of the wash. It washes and drains.
For model number ATW4676BQ1
Hello Roger, Thank you for your inquiry. We would recommend checking the following parts to fix your issue: shift actuator, lid latch assembly, drive belt, clutch assembly, and the gear case. You can test the parts with a multimeter. If you are unfamiliar with how a multimeter functions, there are YouTube videos available to assist you. Hope this helps!

My washer takes a long time to go from sensing to wash to rinse to spin. When it does move to the next cycle it does not agitate or spin it make a noise, stops, tries again 3 times to advance to next cycle still making a noise. Then the noise stops and after about 30 minutes the washer will move to next cycle drain, fill up and then starts the noise again for 3 tries to advance, there is still no agitating or spinning. The lock on the wash is engaged. Please help.

My washer will spin but not agitate. What parts do i need to repair? Series 500 Kenmore
For model number 110.25132411
Hi Tim, thank you for your question. There are a few parts to check when your appliance is not agitating. You should take a look at your driver pulley, and your belt first. If those parts are fine then you may need to look into your actuator being the issue. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

My Whirlpool washer will agitate just fine during a normal wash, but it does nothing at the spin cycle. When i select "drain & spin" only, it will drain and spin just fine. Could it be the actuator? The lid locks and the indicator led shows it locked as well during the spin.
For model number wtw4815ewo
Hi Christopher. It is possible it could be the actuator. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair.

Why is our washer shaking, moving all over the place when spinning? It vibrates and makes so much noise it sounds like a tornado.
For model number WTW4955HW1
Hi Debbie,
Thank you for your question. If your washer shakes and moves, there are some parts that you will need to check to see which one is causing the issue. You will need to check the suspension rods and springs, the tub ring, the tub wear pads, the drive hub kit and the drive pulley. We have included some links from our website that you may reference on how to check these parts. Once you have determined the part you need, please call customer service. We look forward to hearing from you!
I replaced the shift actuator and washer does
Not do a long fast spin. Agitation is fine,
Pump out is fine, basket wobble seems excessive.
Plastic gears are intact clean and lubed.
I hear a repetitive clicking sound when I
Manually spin the tub……? Wobbling
For model number MVWX655DW1
Hello Neil, Thank you for your inquiry. The clicking sound could indicate an object stuck between the tub and the drum or something stuck in the washer drain. Check beneath the wash plate or the drive hub, and check the drive pulley as well. If the tub is wobbling, it could indicate an issue with one of the suspension rods as well. We hope this helps.
