Sample Model Number Tags
Model numbers can be made up of numbers (1005400, for example) or a combination of letters and numbers (LAT1000AAE). The model number will most likely appear on either a paper sticker or a metal plate. Your appliance's model number tag may look similar to the sample model number tags shown here (model number highlighted in yellow):
This is the replacement surface burner switch for your range. It measures approximately 1.5 inches by 1.5 inches, with a shaft that is approximately 1 inch long. The surface burner switch turns the surface element on and off and allows you to control how much heat the element produces. The main reason to change the infinite switch is if the switch has shorted out inside, and is not allowing power to the burner, or if the contacts inside are stuck together and the element is stuck on high. Ensure that the burner is off, and the range has been disconnected from the power source before you begin this repair. This part is sold individually and is an OEM part.
How Buying OEM Parts Can Save You Time and Money
Why buy the real thing?
OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. Simply put, this means that the company who made your appliance is also supplying the replacement part for it.

The replacement part is slightly different than the original. However, the terminals are marked clearly and the installation was fairly easy.

It works with one flaw
My older switches prongs stick out from the bottom. There are 5. Labeled and placed properly. These prongs originate deep on the sides, prongs end at the body of the switch. This caused issues aligning my wires as they were not long enough to cover the new distance. Along with that. There 6 prongs. And they are not Labeled similar to the old one. Took a few tries, but I got everything to work out.

Wrong part. The part pictured is the one I have and need. The one received looks NOTHING like this one. I got confirmation before ordering that it was what I needed. That said, this company is VERY responsive. I would definitely order with them should I need something else.

nothing fit
I got the switch wired correctly, with much cussing. It worked - burner heated. But I couldn't get the new switch to fit back with the old ones neatly enough to close the box and secure it. Got help from someone with stronger hands but still couldn't get it to fit. On top of that I found that the new knobs didn't fit on the new switch - o
... Read morer even on the old switches. The old knob didn't fit on the new switch either. I gave up. Removed the new switch and took out the corresponding burner. Still have 3 burners that work. Repair folks had warned me that I couldn't get parts. They didn't say that it would look like there was a replacement part but it wouldn't fit!
Note that this model# is not my exact model#, I couldn't find it - but its almost identical to this newer version of my Maytag glasstop drop-in stovetop.
Also note that these instructions are VERY generic and not detailed, as most all stoves will be different in assembly.
Be advised that you are NOT getting the part
... Read moreyou see in the picture. It is going to be a newer part that does the same thing. It's a lot smaller and has an offwhite top. It will STILL work, don't return it! The only difference is that the labels on the connections will be a little different - see the other post here on this page that shows how they differ and what to connect to what. Thanks to them I was able to complete this fix easily!
Close the breaker to the stove to ensure no electricity is running to the stove! Use a voltage tester to make extra sure no electricity is running through the cables, they are cheap at home depot!
Just disassemble your stovetop to get to the area that houses the switches. You will see the switch boxes underneath where your knobs go. Take a picture of all connections if you can so you remember where everything plugs in. You'll have about 3-6 cables connected to the switch depending on your stovetop. There are labels on the old switch (L1, L2, etc) at each electrical connector the cables attach to - probably on the top or bottom of the switch. Write down the connector label and what color wire its connected to. Do this for each connection.
If the old labels dont match your new labels, you have an older switch and need to check the other post on this page that someone posted showing how the old labels translate to the new labels.
Now reconnect everything back the same way you took them off and you are good to go!
Such a simple fix and you'll save hundreds.

Original infinite switch on cooktop (Jenn-Air model JED8230AED)needed to be replaced
Replaced original switch with replacement sent using the part finder tool of PartSelect. Everything went fine EXCEPT the replacement switch's H1 terminal did not correspond to the original switches H1 terminal. Proper terminal connections were as follows:

switch for burner, when turned on, would set breaker to off
Lifted stove top from counter, removed screws securing glass top, removed screws from switch housing. Removed color coded wires from old switch, one at a time, and secured them to the new switch. Put it all back together and just like new. Probably saved $200 service call.

Burner only stays on high regardless of setting. Is this the part i need? Also back burner is a two burner set up with an inside and outside or dual setting. Only the inside part works. Would this fix that problem also?
For model number cce 3400w
Hi Josef,
Thank you for your question. If the burner is on high regardless of the setting, then the issue is the burner switch and it will need to be replaced. Also, if only the inside part of the back burner works, the issue could be either the burner switch, the element or the wiring connected to it. You will need to test the parts with a multimeter to see which part is causing the issue. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

I bought replacement parts for my model jed8430bdb which were 2 switches for the burners. The new parts are w11088181 and they are the new replacement switches for this model stovetop. The problem is the terminals on the new switches are labeled differently then the ones on the old ones i do not know what wire goes to the new terminals as they are labeled differently.

Hello Mike and thank you for writing.
It certainly sounds like it could be a faulty surface switch PS12070671, you should check for signs of damage, and replace if necessary. You also should make sure your element has good continuity. We hope this helps. Please contact us anytime if you require further assistance.

My Jennair Rt Front Burner does not light up/red, or turn on at all. No heat.
-I swapped out cook top coil cartridges also. Same- Rt Front Burner does not work. And fyi the left side burners both work on left side. Also, the rear burner works on the right side. Only the Front larger burner will not turn on regardless of either cartridge used on Right side.
-I even swapped the infinite switches for the Front & Rear. Same result.
Rt. Front Burner does not turn red or turn on. However, the Rear switch does work showing the infinite switch is not the culprit.
Their has to be a part controlling the Front Right Burner to replace?
Help?
For model number JES9860BAB
Hi Robert,
Thank you for your question. If the right front burner will not heat regardless of what element or switch is plugged in, then you will need to check the wiring between the parts. We hope this helps!
I had a repairman in to fix a light that stays on beneath the dial for the rear burner. They left the note "Service manual indicates the light under the dial means the high limit sensor is faulty," and said the part is no longer available so the whole cooktop must be replaced. Is this surface burner switch what I need?
For model number JED8430BDB
Hello Kim, thank you for reaching out to PartSelect Canada. According to our research, the light indicates when the cooking area is hot to the touch even after the control has been turned off. The light will remain on until the area has cooled. We would recommend you check the surface burner switch to fix the issue. If it is the right rear burner, the infinite switch is part number PS11744435. If it is the left rear burner, the infinite switch is part number PS12070671. The surface burner switch turns the surface element on and off and allows you to control how much heat the element produces. We hope that helps!
inner and now outer burner not working, which switch part number to order?
For model number JED8430BDS
Hello Jerry, thank you for getting in touch. According to our research, the issue is most probably with the dual element infinite switch, part number PS11744225. It controls the dual burner element. If you need help placing an order, customer service is open 7 days a week!
