Food was freezing in the fridge
Spoke to a repair technician online described what was happening as food keep freezing in the fridge. He advised me to change the thermistor and if that didn't work the control board as those are the only 2 things that would cause food to freeze. Changed thermistor and fridge is running at proper temp very disappointed with whir

Refrigerator runs continuously
I unplugged the refrigerator to remove power. I pried off the back plastic cover. Loosened the two screws with a nut driver. Disconnected the original thermistor and connected the new thermistor. Rerouted the wire and replaced the plastic covers. Restored power and waited for the refrigerator to return to temperature and shut off.

The thermistor did not resolve the problem, as stated in the original problem support contained on the web site.

Re thermistor # W11438736
What is the OHM reading on this sensor. At room temperature? As well as at approximately 32 degree Fahrenheit?
I am unable to find this technical information
For model number Art318ffdw03
Hello Gord, thank you for your question. There should actually be a tech sheet with what the thermistor is supposed to be reading behind the bottom kickplate grill of your appliance on the left hand side. However, if you do not have that there, usually at room temperature you should be reading around 11000 ohms. In a cup of ice water you should be reading 27000 ohms. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

Where exactly is the thermistor located in this model? I've seen several videos but I'm unable to determine if it's within the top temperature setting module or behind the panel at the back of the refrigerator.
For model number WRT311FZDZ02
Hello Mike, thank you for the question. This thermistor is located in the bottom fresh food section, in the center of the air diffuser covered by the control housing. Thank you for reaching out!

items freezing in refrig area today temp was 22 degrees, changed thermister and temp sensor still not working, all vents are clear, damper is loose and working, door seals are good
looking for next step, control board ??
thanks
For model number WRT318FMDW06
Hi Thomas, thank you for contacting us. As you have already replaced the thermistor, and checked the vents and damper, the issue could be with the control board, part number PS12745754. It manages the functions of the refrigerator such as cooling and defrost times. You may need to replace it to fix the issue. We hope this solves your problem!
Aloha! I'm hoping you can help me. I'm trying to locate the defrost thermostat on a Whirlpool refrigerator model no# WRT519SZDW01. I removed the freezers back panel but I cant find its location anywhere behind the panel. I also looked down below in the compartment which house the compressor and the condenser and also under the refrigerators overhead panel which house the control panel and light bulb but again after extensive searching I still cant find the defrost thermostat. Is there somewhere i haven't looked? It would make my day much better if you could shed some light on the thermostats location. I look forward to hearing back from you. Mahalo, Chad
For model number WRT519SZDW01
Hello Chad, Thank you for the question. Checking this model, it does not show it requires a Defrost Thermostat. The Defrost Cycle is controlled by the Main Control Board for this model. We hope this helps!
Our refrigerator won't shut off on it's own. Refrigerator section freezes food. If we unplug it and plug it back in it will stay off until it reaches a temperature where it should turn back on. Then it won't turn off on it's own. We have to unplug and plug it back in again to turn it off. The readings I get on both a new and old thermistor with an ohm meter set at 200k are 3.0 at room temperature and 7.2 at 32 degrees. I've also replaced the control board.
For model number WRT318FZDW02
Hi David,
Thank you for your question. If your refrigerator will not shut off, there are some parts that you will need to check to see which one is causing the issue. You will need to check the capacitor, the sealed system, the defrost heater, the condenser fan motor, the evaporator fan motor and the door gaskets. We have included a link that you may reference on how to check these parts. Once you have determined the part you need, please feel free to call customer service. We are open 7 days a week and anyone will be happy to assist you. We look forward to hearing from you!
Do you have resistance chart for this model thermistors or at least, resistance value at room temperature?
I don't want to order a part just because it may be bad. I would like to know for sure.
For model number WRT318
Hi Alex,
Thank you for your question. The average resistance for a refrigerator thermistor at room temperature is between 7000 and 40000 ohms of resistance. We hope this helps!

My refrigerator is not cooling. I've replaced the run relay, capacitor, and overload module. I removed the thermistor in the lower part and checked the resistance. Room temperature read 3000 ohms and cold water (36 degrees) read 7500 ohms. Is this reading acceptable? I've worked in electronics/electrical and familiar with these devices. People keep telling me the compressor is bad. I bought it probably 5 years ago or less. Not convinced yet the compressor is bad. I've had other whirlpool appliances that ran ok for many years.
For model number WRT318FZDW02
Hi Richard, thank you for the question. According to our research, the thermistor should be reading around 11000 ohms at room temperature. In a cup of ice water thermistor should be reading 27000 ohms. Your thermistor reading is not in this range. We would recommend replacing it to fix the issue. We hope that helps!

Vegetables are are freezing, will replacing the thermistor solve this problem?
For model number WRT318FMDM02
Hello Andrew, thank you for contacting us. We would recommend checking the temperature settings and making sure it is not set too low. The optimum temperature range for storing fresh food is between 36 - 38 degrees Fahrenheit. We would recommend setting the temperature one setting low. If this does not help, replacing the thermistor, part number PS12745758, can potentially solve your problem. Customer service is always available to help you place an order if you are having trouble doing so. Good luck with your repair.
