My Frigidaire's ice maker recently made a grinding noise, then stopped making ice. I opened up the ice maker cabinet and ran 'diagnostics'. The control board, thermistor, and auger appear to be working fine, although I found frost and ice build up on the surface of the housing at the rear of the ice maker which covers the evaporator. I believe the problem is in the cooling fan because of the grinding noise. Could the fan have burned itself out when its blades were grinding on the ice that had built up?
For model number FGHF2366PFBA
Hi Dave, thank you for reaching out. Yes, it's possible that the cooling fan could have burned itself out if its blades were grinding against ice buildup. The grinding noise you heard might have been the fan blades hitting the ice, which can cause the motor to overheat and eventually fail. If the fan is not functioning properly, it could lead to inadequate cooling and ice buildup in the ice maker. Replacing the cooling fan with the part number PS8770222, could resolve the issue if the fan is indeed the problem. We hope this solves your problem!
