Fixed the leak
First replaced the seal but that didn't fix the leak, the seat where the seal sits in was way too loose, should have known. New outer tub job was easier than it looks to replace. 4 Stars only because the part was dirty and was missing a final tooling step in manufacturing, one of the holes was not drilled in the bottom of it where the shield screw attaches to. But this is GE's fault and not PartSelect.

washer was leaking (noticed during spin cycle)
Took complete tub assembly out of washer and inspected it. Did not find an obvious cause of leak but all 8 screws on inner tub hub were loose. As both tub nut and split ring were corroded, replaced them and the outer tub seal. Did a lot of cleaning!! As I was putting the trans assy back on the outer tub, I noticed a crack around the drain spout. At 1st, it looked like it belonged there but a closer look proved it didn't. I ordered a new outer tub (which came in 2 days) and I put the whole thing back together. Reassembly was far easier than disassembly was and I learned a whole lot about washers. YouTube is a great source of information.

My repairmen says I have a hole in the outer tub. How can a hole be made in the outer tub? They say this is not covered under warranty.

Hello Gwendolyn, Thank you for the question. It would be hard to say how the tub made a hole sorry, it could have been a defect is the part or something that was put in during a wash. For warranty you would need to contact Maytag directly as we just sell parts. Hope this helps!
