Handle was cracked and missing half of it
First, I located the dishwasher switch in the circuit breaker and turned it off, so as to kill power to the dishwasher - DO NOT PROCEED WITHOUT DOING THIS FIRST. Unscrewed front panel by removing 6 screws on the inside of the door frame. Then pulled 2 white wires on left and 2 black wires on right off of bottom of latch. Then used hex

Note that there was a video on the site when I ordered the part, and it demonstrated all the steps; however, when I received the part and went back to the site to review the video again, it was gone. Broken door latch assembly
This repair turned out quite easy. I removed the 6 phillips head screws that held the door latch cover in place, dropped the cover and let it hang while I removed the latch assembly that was held in place by two torx head screws. I used needle nosed pliers to gently disconnect the wiring connectors from the old latch assembly one at the
... Read more time, then carefully attached the wire to corresponding lug on the new latch. Once all wiring was transferred, I installed the new latch using the two torx head screws, replaced the cover, and reinstalled the 6 phillips head screws to secure the cover. There was no need to replace the gasket, so I'm holding on to it for future use.

I used the diagnostic tool to determine which part I needed and ordered it. After receiving the part very quickly I took off the front panel easily enough and removed the old part as per video instructions. I realized it did not look exactly the same. Dishwasher latch broke
Removed the top control panel and disconnected the electrical connectors. Removed the old latch and attached the connectors to the new latch. Attached the new latch and then reattached the front cover. Simple job if you have a phillips screwdriver and star tools.

The failed part (latch kit) was quickly identified on the PartSelect web site. The order was placed for a replacement part and delivered in a timely manner (4 business days). The part looked identical so installation continued. The old part was removed by removing the six phillips screws that hold the top cover in place. (note: a star

The wires were switched from the old part to the new part one at a time to ensure that they were properly placed. The new part was secured in place using the two screws. The cover was replaced by securing the 6 phillips screws. The latch was tested and worked as expected. The total cost of the part and the shipping was around $50. Installation was a snap. This was a great experience and sure beats buying a new dishwasher! I will use PartSelect again.

I purchased the door latch and gasket #ps979850 and when i went to install it and took the old one off, i didn't pay close enough attention to which wires went where and when i hooked them back up (white and black color) on both sides, it kept tripping my breaker. Then i switched wires around and then my whole dishwasher was smoking. Do you think i fried the motor in the dishwasher?
