Washer would not wash on "normal" cycle. Had to play with the knob to get it to run at all. Washer would not drain properly either.
I unplugged the washer from the electrical outlet.

I then removed the drain hose from the wall drain to allow me to turn the washer to gain access to the the back panel.

From the front, I then removed the plastic timer knob from the timer by unscrewing it. Then I pulled the plastic plate with the arrow on it to remove it. This exposed the screws that attached the timer to the control panel. I left them attached.

I then removed the two screws on the bottom of the front of the control panel (on each end) that attach the control panel to the washer.

I then went to the rear of the washer and removed the two screws on the top of the rear of the control panel.

I went back to the front and pulled the control panel forward and up to release it from the washer.

I then removed the two screws (that were under the plastic plate) that attached the timer to the panel and removed the timer from the panel.

Then I unplugged the wiring harness from the timer and removed the timer completely.

From there I reversed the procedure to install the new timer and knob.

Washer stops on 1st spin/drain cycle
Unscrew timer/main control knob, then remove 2 spacers behind the knob. Remove 2 main control panel screws at each front lower corner. Rock panel back (pull slightly forward before rocking back to release plastic notches) to expose wire harness and timer. Remove 2 screws holding timer and disconnect timer electrical connector. Put new timer on with screws and attach connector correctly. Rock panel forward into place and reattach panel screws, spacers and knob. Note: Make sure lid switch is working properly before assuming the timer is bad. My switch is also intermittent and needed a shim on lid male plastic piece to engage the switch plate. Read more...

washer not cycling or working on all cycles.
On my model You have to first lift the control panel in order to remove timer knob.I removed control panel by prying on the ends of panel one at a time with putty knife and rag to keep from scratching washer. I then use needle nose pliers to pull plastic under side of knob while pulling on knob which is the trickiest part of the job as knob will not come of til it is pulled from underside with needle nose pliers to release it then its easy from that point to disconnect wires and slide timer to the left to unlock it and in stall new timer. You have to take your time doing the repair and it will work out better for you. After replacing timer machine works on all cycles and completes entire cycle. Problem with cycles stopping at the wrong point, problems with water temp.
The video for the water inlet valve/solenoid is excellent to show you how to get the top off so you can get to the timer. Then just two tips:

1) when you pull the existing knob off the front per the instructions on the new timer, there is a small screw on the face of the top unit, next to the timer spindle, that must be removed - otherwise the timer won't slide out from under the tabs. Then, looking at the existing timer from behind, there is a thin tab on the left that needs to be lifted up about 1/8", which will allow you to slide the timer unit to the left about 1/4" to get out from the 3 other tabs, and lift it out.

2) be very careful to line up the timing marks for the timer (old and new) and the knob markings, otherwise the cycle text on the actual face of the top unit won't line up correctly with what the knob is pointing to, and nothing will seem to work right!

Ultimately, for us, the problem ended up being the water intake valve, but I think the above will help anyone with a timer issue.
