Whirlpool gas stove burner igniter had broken.
Our existing gas stove burner igniter had broken on one of the four burners. I therefore obtained a replacement igniter and mounting screw form PartSelect.com which were indeed perfect replacement parts. However, I could not remove the burner plates from the top of the stove since they were basically welded into position by years of heat.
... Read more I therefore followed instructions as submitted by a previous customer (thank you Michael of Bloomington, Il), snapped open the stove lid retainer clips, and then lifted the stove surface about 4 inches. Through that opening I was able to reach the underside of the involved burner. Unfortunately, I could not unscrew the existing broken igniter mounting screw and therefore had to break off the already broken igniter and grind down the remaining mounting screw using a drill grinder since the screw was basically welded into place. Once I did that, I was then able to install the new igniter using a separate unused screw hole already in place right beside the old previous mounting screw. With that done, the new igniter works perfectly and the burner works just like new. It was however a lengthy process over two hours long because of the glitches described above. Nevertheless I'm very pleased that the parts were perfect and the repair is complete.
The ceramic on the electrode broke due to water over boiling the week of Thanksgiving. When i tried to loosen the screw to replace the electrode it broke off inside the threads. Ordered whole new unit overnight. Back in business in five minutes. Thanksgiving was back on!! Thanks!
- Removed the cover. - Removed te two Torx screws. - Pulled the burner a couple of inches to be able to disconnect the wire. - Spent a lot of time removing the small Philips screw holding the ignitor. Ended up breaking the ignitor with pliers to be able to put WD40 under the screw's head. - Treated all screws with a hi

two igniters didnt function and it continued to spark after the gas ignited.
Well, after I finally got the parts, the repair was easier than anticipated. You deffinitely want to lift the unit out to replace the spark module and swap over one wire at a time so you dont forget where they go, (important on a gas stove) When I pulled out the old unit I found it was just jammed in there when constructed, I expected mo
... Read morere from Jenn-air, and the plastic casing was broke and pulled apart. Surprised it lasted this long. Also three of the ceramic insulators on the ignitors were broke or cracked. But over all the unit was fairly simple to repair if you take your time and practice safety. Remember, you are working with gas and electicity, and use soapy water to check your connection when you reconnect the gas line. Dont try to work on it still hooked up and in its mount . Disconnect it and lift it out.

All ingitors do not stop sparking when plugged in. They will only stop after extra large burner flames on, ignitors do npt stop with any of the others burners flamed on.
For model number JGD8430
Hi Frank, unplug the appliance and give it time to dry out. Plug the model back in and if it still is sparking then you may have to replace the igniters. Thank you for your question and good luck with your repair!
